How we know what's opening

How do you know a Chicago restaurant is opening soon? Before the City of Chicago issues a retail food license, the Chicago Department of Public Health inspects the space. That license inspection usually comes about two weeks before the license itself. Every place on this list passed that inspection and did not have its license yet as of September 16, 2026.

When will these restaurants open? None of these dates is an opening date. Once the license issues, a new spot usually opens within days or weeks, and it moves to the Chicago new restaurants page.

How current is this list? It was last updated September 16, 2026. Places drop off once their license issues.
