How we know what's opening

How do we know a restaurant is opening in Austin before it's announced? A new Texas business that sells taxable goods needs a sales tax permit from the Texas Comptroller, and the permit lists the first sale date given when it was filed. We read those permits every week. A permit is not an opening, so we name a business and call it open or opening only after checking it by hand.

When will each of these restaurants open? We publish an opening date only when the business states one itself, on its own site or social pages.

How current is this list? It is rebuilt from the Texas sales tax permit record every week, and this page was last updated October 12, 2026. Once a spot opens, it moves to the Austin openings page.
